Old Hampstead Town Hall

Hampstead

INCREASINGLY RECOGNISED AS ONE OF LONDON’S TOP VENUES FOR PERFORMING ARTS AND FILM CLIENTELE. Wac Arts is a vibrant performing arts centre as custodians of the Old Hampstead Town Hall, Belsize Park. Located in one of London’s most picturesque locations, as a multifaceted and versatile venue with a wide range of halls, studios and rehearsal rooms for hire.

The Old Hampstead Town Hall has become quite the in-demand hub for theatre rehearsals, studio casting and location shoots, as an impressive example of a Victorian vestry hall, designed in the italianate style and hailed a decided ornamental part of Haverstock Hill when it opened in 1878, Wac Arts developed their own extension to the building – a modern Arts Block – in 2000.

The buidling's exterior has a symmetrical facade, flanked by sash windows of Bracknell red brick with Portland stone dressings and Broomhall Company tiles. Many other original Victorian details can be seen inside, like the Imperial Staircase, with its elaborate cast-iron balusters, which overlook a colourful floor of Victorian tiling. Original cornicing, fireplaces and clocks can be seen inside. An Edwardian extension was built in 1910, built in red brick with stone dressings, but its shape favours the Baroque revival style, popular at that time for public buildings.
